Were you in the audience at The Moth recently when Alan Rabinowitz told his story of creating the first-ever jaguar reserve on the planet? Or when Barry Gibbs told his tale of being exonerated last September after doing 19 years for a crime he didn’t commit? Or at last year’s mainstage show produced by The Moth Outreach Program, when 14-year old Isis Richardson became the youngest storyteller to appear at The Moth with her story of having less in a world that perpetually inspires dreams of having more?

If you heard these or any of the other 300+ stories presented by The Moth in the last year, would you not agree that storytelling satisfies a vital, human need for connection? We believe that storytelling has a unique ability to bring us together across social and cultural divides, because good stories take us to universal truths through the expression of individual realities. Thus, a good story celebrates, at once, the diversity and the commonality of human experience, as is the mission of The Moth. Helping people from all walks of life give shape to their stories is a time-consuming process, in which we work one-on-one with our storytellers to help them discover their individual stories, and then to shape their experiences into well-crafted narratives.

It is thanks to the support of our members that we are able to present unique voices at every show in our Stories at The Moth series; to offer 260 storytelling opportunities to all members of the community every year at The Moth StorySLAMs; and to help hundreds of under-served New Yorkers through The Moth Outreach Program.

Now in our 10th season, we want to continue to offer great shows and SLAMs at affordable prices for our audiences, we want to continue supporting emerging and established writers and artists though our productions, and we want to help hundreds of New Yorkers realize their potential and tell their stories through The Moth Outreach Program.
