What is a StorySLAM?

The Moth StorySLAM is an open-mic storytelling competition in which anyone can share a true, personal, 5‑minute story on the night’s theme. Sign up for a chance to tell a story or sit back and enjoy the show.

Tonight’s Theme

Prepare a five minute story about what kept you up at night as a teen. The haunted cabin at summer camp or the ghost by the lake. Your braces getting caught mid-kiss, a mortifying quarrel in the cafeteria, the pimple that ruined your prom pics. The ouija board that seemed to conjure a troubled spirit. The attic/woods/abandoned house that served as party central…until everyone got spooked. Stories of the teacher who had it out for you, the friend group that iced you out…or the person you bullied who finally got you back. Share tales of youthful hijinks and horror.

Costume Competition
In celebration of the start of spooky season, our collaboration with MUBI and their film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (now streaming on MUBI), we invite you to come to this special show dressed in costume. Steer into the evening’s theme by coming as your most awkward teenage nightmare or simply take the chance to be someone else entirely. Dress as your biggest fear from yesteryear or the creature from your literal nightmares. A black cat. A wild witch. A monster from the depths or the 80’s pop star you always looked up to.

Then, when doors open, sign up for the COSTUME COMPETITION and our secret panel of judges will identify the top five looks of the night, and before we name our StorySLAM winner for the evening, the crowd will select a winner by round of applause.

Lastly, AN IMPORTANT COSTUME DISCLAIMER: To ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable experience, please review The Bell House’s list of restricted items before heading to the show. The Bell House does not allow: identity-concealing face paint/masks, weapons, weapon replicas, sharp jewelry, clothing that may cause harm, or stuffed animals/toys.
