The Moth Workshops
Changemakers
Deepening connections within and between communities.
Storytelling goes where it’s needed.
The Moth has spent nearly 30 years developing a methodology for helping people find and share true personal stories.
That methodology works across contexts that look very different from one another. Our 50+ instructors have taught personal storytelling workshops to midwives in Uganda, farmers, formerly and currently incarcerated individuals, peacebuilders, U.S. Marines, veterans, visual artists, public servants, healthcare workers and countless other community groups.
Our changemaker workshops bring our Moth storytelling practice to communities and organizations where personal stories are essential — in building voice, deeper connection, and the capacity to advocate for change.
Nonprofits and Direct Service Programs
The Moth Community Engagement Program works with veterans, people returning from incarceration, immigrants and refugees, neighborhood residents, people in recovery, and many others. We partner with the organizations and programs that serve them to celebrate and practice personal storytelling.
Our workshops create space for participants to find, shape, and share their own stories. To be heard. No performance experience required.
What we offer
- Introductory Workshops — 2 – 3 hours, 10 – 60 participants. An introduction to Moth storytelling principles and a guided brainstorming process.
- Intensive Workshops — 9 – 15 hours across multiple sessions, 12 – 15 participants. A deep dive culminating in a small, invite-only performance.
- Information sessions, keynotes, and public events are available for select partnerships.
Global Partners and Advocates
The Moth Global Community Program works with foundations, NGOs, and advocates around the world and in many different languages. The work looks different in each country. The instructors change. The core methodology does not.
Our programs bring storytelling to people doing high-stakes work in their communities — women and girls’ advocates, global health workers, innovative leaders, and others eager to use their personal stories as a tool to change policy and shift narratives.

I could not stop marveling at the power of storytelling and how a few simple, but powerful words could quickly build trust in a room full of strangers and people who are not so close to each other.
